The Hidalgo County Commissioner's Court celebrated a significant milestone during its recent meeting, honoring Juan Francisco Ochoa and his family on the twentieth anniversary of Palenque Grill. This celebration not only marks two decades of the restaurant's presence but also highlights over 25 years of the Palenque Group's contributions to the local dining scene.
Ochoa's journey began in 1975 with the founding of El Pollo Loco in Mexico, where he quickly expanded to over 85 locations. His venture into the U.S. market started in 1980 with a location in Los Angeles, where he recognized a gap for quality Mexican cuisine. In 1987, he opened Taco Palenque in Laredo, Texas, further establishing his brand with authentic flavors.
In 2005, Ochoa and his son Carlos launched Palenque Grill, a full-service restaurant that offers a fine dining twist on traditional Mexican dishes. Ochoa describes Palenque Grill as "a little piece of our homeland," and today, Hidalgo County proudly hosts two Palenque Grills and over ten Taco Palenques, making them staples in the region.
The Commissioner's Court expressed its congratulations and best wishes for continued success to Ochoa and his family, solidifying their impact on the local community. The motion to honor them was unanimously approved, showcasing the importance of their contributions to Hidalgo County's cultural and culinary landscape.
