Maui County has announced a new parking initiative aimed at enhancing access for Hawaii residents at popular beach locations. During a recent Water and Infrastructure Committee meeting, officials confirmed that residents will enjoy free parking at Kamole Beaches 1, 2, and 3, as well as at the Wailuku Garage.
The free parking policy allows Hawaii residents to park at Kamole Beaches from 7 AM to 8 PM, Monday through Friday, without charge. On weekends and county holidays, residents will have priority parking before 10 AM, ensuring they can secure a spot during peak times. This initiative is designed to support local residents and encourage beach access.
To utilize the free parking, residents must present a valid Hawaii driver's license. Parking kiosks will be installed at strategic locations around the beaches, allowing residents to scan their licenses for easy access. For those who prefer using a smartphone, an app will also be available to streamline the parking process.
Additionally, the initiative includes provisions for handicap parking, ensuring compliance with ADA regulations. Vehicles displaying handicap permits will be allowed to park in designated stalls, regardless of whether the driver holds a Hawaii driver's license.
The kiosks will be positioned at key points, including near the lifeguard station and restrooms, to facilitate easy access for beachgoers. This new parking policy is expected to improve the overall experience for residents and visitors alike, promoting greater enjoyment of Maui's beautiful beaches.
