Mayor Ron Jensen announced several exciting community initiatives during his August 2025 message, aimed at enhancing the lives of Grand Prairie residents as the new school year approaches.

One of the key highlights is the upcoming back-to-school supply giveaway event at the Dalworth Recreation Center on Saturday, August 9, from 10 AM to noon. This event will provide essential school supplies, including notebooks, pencils, and folders, with no registration required, ensuring that all children are prepared for the school year ahead.

Additionally, residents are invited to participate in the "Strolling with the Mayor" event on Saturday, August 20. This gathering will take place at Larson Elementary, starting with a meet and greet at 8:30 AM, followed by a neighborhood walk at 9 AM. This initiative encourages community engagement and welcomes participants of all ages.

On August 23, Grand Prairie Animal Services will host its annual "Clear the Shelters" event, offering a wonderful opportunity for families to adopt pets without any fees. The event runs from 9 AM to 5 PM, promoting animal welfare and encouraging pet adoption.

In other community developments, the newly renovated Bain Library has reopened, featuring a stunning new entrance that has received positive feedback from visitors. Residents are encouraged to explore the improvements during their next visit.

Playground Adventures has also introduced a new sensory wall designed for children of all abilities. This inclusive feature includes vibrant mosaics and textures, along with stories in English, Spanish, and Braille, making playtime accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

Lastly, Mayor Jensen shared the exciting news that Grand Prairie has secured a $2.8 million grant from State Representative Chris Turner and Texas Parks and Wildlife. This funding will enhance the Fish Creek Trail with pedestrian lighting, improving safety and accessibility for evening users.
