Haslet City Council has proposed an increase in sewer rates to ensure the sustainability of the city's sewer fund during their budget workshop on August 2, 2025. The council discussed a recommended monthly increase of $8.14 for residents, aimed at making the sewer fund self-sufficient and alleviating financial pressures that have previously required subsidies from the water fund.

The proposed increase is based on a comprehensive rate analysis conducted by Elkif and Associates, which took nearly a year to complete. The council emphasized that this adjustment is necessary to keep pace with rising operational costs and to prevent future financial shortfalls. Currently, the sewer expenditures exceed revenues, prompting the need for this increase to maintain service levels without relying on the general fund.

In addition to the sewer rate discussion, the council addressed the recent changes in trash collection services. Residents will soon benefit from two bulk pickups each month, with the schedule expected to be confirmed shortly. The council plans to distribute informational brochures outlining the new trash service details, including the e-waste collection program, to ensure residents are well-informed.
