Every summer for the past five years, the Hoffman State Fire Department has stepped up to support Camp I Am Me, a transformative week-long camp for children and teenagers who have suffered burn injuries. Fire Lieutenant Kurt Lichtenberg highlighted the department's commitment during a recent discussion, emphasizing their vital role in ensuring the camp runs smoothly.

"We've been honored to be here for the last 6, 7 years. It's been an absolute blast," Lichtenberg stated, reflecting on the camaraderie and teamwork involved in managing logistics for the camp. The firefighters are not just present; they are the backbone of the operation, ensuring that every activity is executed flawlessly and that the needs of campers and volunteers are met.

Phil Zaleski, a key figure at the camp, praised the firefighters for their dedication. "They help support and manage 50 to 60 campers and volunteers throughout the week," he noted, acknowledging the special needs that arise in such a dynamic environment. The firefighters' efforts are crucial in creating a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

Among the volunteers is Emma, known as Phoenix, who has taken on significant responsibilities, including managing communications. "She's been a huge help," Lichtenberg remarked, showcasing the collaborative spirit that defines Camp I Am Me.

As the camp continues to thrive, the partnership between the Hoffman State Fire Department and Camp I Am Me remains a shining example of community support and resilience, making a lasting impact on the lives of young burn survivors.
