The recent Police & Fire Commission Meeting held by the City Council of Prospect Heights highlighted two significant community events aimed at fostering engagement and support among residents.
The first event, National Night Out, is scheduled for August 5 from 5 to 7 PM on Elm Street, adjacent to the Gary Morava Center and Lions Baseball Park. This annual gathering, organized by the park district in collaboration with the police department, promises to be a festive occasion for the entire community. Attendees can look forward to a variety of food options, children's games, live music, and open swim at the pool. Additionally, police and fire vehicles will be on display, allowing residents to connect with local first responders in a relaxed setting. The event aims to strengthen community ties and promote safety awareness.
Following National Night Out, the city will host its annual summer celebration, also known as the backpack giveaway event, on August 6 at the park on the East Side. This initiative, coordinated by Omni Youth Services alongside the police department and other community partners, focuses on supporting families as they prepare for the upcoming school year. Last year, the event successfully distributed several hundred backpacks filled with school supplies, and organizers expect to meet or exceed that number this year. The event not only provides essential resources for students but also fosters a sense of community involvement and support.
These events reflect the city’s commitment to community engagement and highlight the collaborative efforts between local organizations and the police department. As the city prepares for these gatherings, residents are encouraged to participate and take advantage of the resources and connections available.
