The Kershaw County School Board meeting held on August 1, 2025, commenced with a segment dedicated to recognition and celebration of student achievements. Dr. Goodwin opened the meeting by highlighting the accomplishments of students from Camden Middle School.
A group of students, including Lincoln Demma, Leighton Morris, Sofia Armoth, Gracie Hall, and others, were acknowledged for their fundraising efforts, which raised $2,470 for the United Way through a project called Penny Wars. Notably, Stephen Kelly contributed $1,000 individually to this cause. The school also received the prestigious honor council designation, reflecting excellence in student leadership and programming. Gracie Hall was specifically recognized with the Terry McCoy Hall of Fame Award for her outstanding leadership and team spirit.
Additionally, the meeting celebrated the achievements of the Camden Middle School FFA team, who recently competed in the state horse evaluation career development event at Clemson University. Kylie Tucker earned second place individually, while the team secured first place overall, qualifying them for the National FFA Convention next summer.
The meeting also acknowledged the academics department and adult education program for receiving grants from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. The academics department received a $3,000 grant to purchase high-quality books for students attending this year's summer reading camp, titled "Read Every Day." This initiative aims to support literacy milestones outlined in South Carolina's Read to Succeed initiative.
The meeting concluded with gratitude expressed towards the students and educators for their hard work and dedication.
