A new era of student representation has begun at the NFCSD Board of Education, with the swearing-in of Harjot Kor, a senior from Niagara Falls High School, as the district's first ad hoc student board member. This initiative, mandated by the state education department, aims to enhance student voices in school governance.

During the meeting on July 31, 2025, board members expressed their enthusiasm for the inclusion of a student representative, emphasizing the importance of hearing diverse perspectives. "We want her opinions, her views, her thoughts," stated a board member, highlighting the significance of student involvement in decision-making processes. While Harjot will participate fully in discussions, she will not have voting rights on agenda items or personnel matters.

Harjot's impressive background includes leadership roles in various community service initiatives, such as serving as lieutenant governor of the Key Club International and contributing over 250 hours of community service. She has also been involved in trauma-informed care advocacy and holds a global leadership certificate. Her diverse skill set and commitment to service were praised by board members, who noted her potential to be a strong voice for her peers.
