Roswell City Council has approved a significant renovation project for the Bill Johnson Community Activity Center, aimed at addressing water intrusion issues and expanding gymnastics program capacity. The project, set to begin on September 1 and conclude by October 20, will involve replacing up to 140 deteriorating concrete block walls and improving exterior waterproofing and drainage to prevent further water damage.

With a budget of $434,410 funded through bond proceeds and impact fees, this initiative marks the first phase of a three-part plan to alleviate overcrowding in the city's gymnastics and performing arts programs. Currently, the gymnastics program operates at 163% of its intended capacity, and relocating it to the newly renovated small gym will free up 5,700 square feet for expansion.

Following this phase, the second phase will focus on renovations at the Crabapple Center, including roofing and HVAC upgrades, to accommodate eight new performing arts studios. The final phase will involve further renovations at the physical activity center to support continued growth in the gymnastics program.

This comprehensive approach not only addresses immediate structural concerns but also positions Roswell to better serve its growing community needs in recreational and performing arts programs.
