A significant milestone in affordable housing was celebrated at the Central@29 press conference in Indianapolis, marking the culmination of 14 years of dedicated effort. Matt Rayburn, deputy executive director of the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IH CDA), highlighted the project's importance in providing housing opportunities and supportive services to the Mapleton Fall Creek area.
Central@29 will offer 57 new affordable housing units, catering to a range of income levels from 30% to 80% of the area median income. Notably, 11 of these units will be designated for individuals with disabilities who have faced homelessness, ensuring long-term housing stability for some of the community's most vulnerable residents.
Rayburn praised the perseverance of the development team, which included the Mapleton Fall Creek Development Corporation and Rafael Health, for their commitment to overcoming challenges throughout the project's lengthy timeline. He emphasized the critical role of partnerships with the city of Indianapolis and other organizations in making this project a reality.
As the community looks forward to the opening of Central@29, the collaborative efforts behind this initiative signal a promising step toward addressing the affordable housing crisis in Indianapolis. The project not only aims to provide shelter but also to foster self-sufficiency and strengthen the community as a whole.
