In a heartfelt ceremony during the Houston City Council meeting on July 29, 2025, Mayor John Whitmire proclaimed the day as "Kelsey and Campbell Kadian Day" in honor of sisters Kelsey and Campbell Kadian, co-founders of Kelsey and Campbell's Kids Care Inc. This recognition highlights their significant contributions to the community through their nonprofit organization, which focuses on philanthropy and service.
The Kadian sisters, who began their journey of giving back at ages 6 and 8, have made a remarkable impact by organizing various initiatives, including literacy drives that have distributed over 25,000 books and disaster relief efforts across multiple states and countries. Their organization has also provided support to orphanages in Ghana and Uganda, showcasing their commitment to helping vulnerable communities both locally and globally.
During the meeting, Council Member Evan Shabazz praised the sisters for their dedication and leadership, emphasizing the importance of inspiring young people to engage in community service. The sisters expressed their gratitude for the support they have received from family, friends, and the community, highlighting the collective effort required to foster a culture of philanthropy.
In addition to the proclamation, the council discussed procedural motions and community concerns, including ongoing recovery efforts for families affected by recent floods in the Hill Country. Council members took turns acknowledging the importance of community advocacy and the role of local government in supporting residents.
The meeting underscored the city’s commitment to recognizing and supporting grassroots initiatives that uplift the community, with the Kadian sisters serving as shining examples of how young individuals can make a difference. As Houston continues to face various challenges, the spirit of service demonstrated by the Kadians inspires hope and resilience among residents.
