Miami-Dade County's Behavioral Health Advisory Board meeting on July 29, 2025, highlighted significant advancements in local mental health services, particularly through the efforts of WestCare. The organization announced its capacity to serve more patients and families at its Miami clinic, emphasizing its commitment to community impact and accessibility.
WestCare's foundation has allocated $1.8 million in patient care grants in 2023, aiming to dispel any misconceptions about the inaccessibility of quality care. The organization reported that 60 Florida residents accessed its specialized residential programs in Wisconsin last year, underscoring the importance of having local follow-up care available upon their return home.
The Miami clinic currently has the capacity to serve 28 patients, with a focus on both adult and child services. Presently, the clinic employs six clinicians and is in the process of expanding its staff to meet growing community demands. The clinic is also beginning to offer outpatient services, which will further enhance its support for individuals and families in need.
During the meeting, board members expressed concerns about mental health issues, particularly in light of recent tragedies, including post-retirement suicides among first responders. This discussion highlighted the urgent need for accessible mental health resources in the community.
As WestCare continues to grow its services and reach, the Behavioral Health Advisory Board remains focused on ensuring that all residents have access to the care they need, reinforcing the importance of compassionate and evidence-based treatment in Miami-Dade County.
