Teton County officials have enacted Stage 1 partial fire restrictions in the Alta area, effective July 30, 2025, in response to increasing fire risks. Fire Chief Mike Moyer highlighted the decision during a recent government meeting, noting that the restrictions align with similar measures taken in Teton Valley, Idaho, due to numerous red flag days and dry fuel conditions.
Moyer explained that while local conditions are approaching critical levels, recent moisture and cooler weather have delayed broader restrictions across Teton County. However, he anticipates that additional fire restrictions may be necessary soon.
The meeting also featured updates on fire and emergency medical services (EMS) activities, with Moyer reporting a busy period for the department, including various incidents such as a rollover accident and multiple medical emergencies. He praised the quick response of firefighter EMT Sam Wasserman, who played a crucial role in saving a life during a cardiac arrest incident.
In addition to emergency responses, the department is focusing on strategic planning for the next three to five years, addressing community needs and internal operations. Moyer mentioned ongoing training initiatives, including mass casualty incident training and leadership development programs.
As fire conditions continue to be monitored, Teton County officials remain vigilant in their efforts to ensure community safety and preparedness.
