The Austin Fire Department (AFD) celebrated the graduation of its 139th cadet class on July 25, 2025, marking a significant milestone for the new firefighters and the community they will serve. The ceremony highlighted the dedication and hard work of the cadets, as well as the support from family, friends, and the broader public safety community.

Fire Chief Joel Baker opened the event by acknowledging the critical role of family and friends in the cadets' journey to becoming firefighters. The Best All-Around Cadet award, which reflects leadership and overall performance, was awarded to Cadet Emmanuel Canadaby, who received a traditional leather firefighter helmet as a symbol of his accomplishment. Additionally, Cadet Zachary Patty was named valedictorian for achieving the highest overall grade point average in both EMT and fire exams.
