The Citizens' Independent Transportation Trust (CITT) meeting held on July 23, 2025, focused on recognizing outstanding contributions to Miami-Dade County's transit services and included updates from local officials. Although the meeting began without a quorum, it proceeded with ceremonial items, highlighting the achievements of CITT ambassadors.
Mayor Peggy Bell opened the meeting, noting the absence of some members. The first order of business was the recognition of Hesham Elijani as the CITT Ambassador of the Month for June 2025. The CITT ambassador program engages frequent transit riders to provide feedback on their experiences, helping to improve transit services. Elijani was awarded a certificate of recognition and 2,500 bonus points for his contributions, having earned a total of 12,900 points since joining the program in September 2024. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to voice concerns and contribute to the program.
Additionally, Kathleen Ahmed Vargas was recognized as the top ambassador for the second quarter of 2025, although she was unable to attend the meeting. She will receive her award at a future county commission meeting.
As the meeting continued, the Director of Public Works for North Bay Village, Steve Buckland, was introduced for a presentation. Buckland, who recently joined North Bay Village, shared his background and expressed enthusiasm for his new role. The meeting anticipated the arrival of additional members to achieve quorum and proceed with further discussions.
Overall, the meeting underscored the importance of community engagement in transit services and highlighted the collaborative efforts of local officials and volunteers in enhancing transportation in Miami-Dade County.
