Highlands residents can look forward to a new recreational offering as the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board discussed plans for permanent cabins at the lake during their meeting on July 21, 2025. Unlike the current cabins, which are mobile and often clear-cut, these new structures will provide a more stable and immersive experience in nature.
The proposed cabins are designed to accommodate a minimum of six guests, featuring a queen-size bed, a loft, a pull-out sofa, a small kitchenette, and a bathroom with a shower. This development aims to enhance the community's recreational options, providing families and groups with a comfortable place to stay while enjoying the natural beauty of the area.
In addition to the cabins, the board also reviewed plans for a new trail that will follow a natural path through the trees, ensuring minimal disruption to the existing environment. This approach reflects the board's commitment to preserving the area's natural landscape while improving access to outdoor activities.
The discussions highlighted a significant shift in the recreational offerings at Highlands, focusing on sustainability and community engagement. As these plans move forward, residents can anticipate a more enriching outdoor experience that aligns with the area's natural charm.
