He acknowledged the absence of Director Angel Ponce, who was attending a national transportation conference. Herrera introduced key team members, including Kimberly Blanchard, who oversees the pedestrian accessibility review program, and Amanda Boyd, the senior office assistant.

Herrera emphasized Houston's commitment to ensuring compliance with the ADA and fostering accessibility, equity, and inclusion across all city departments. He noted that while 35 years have passed since the ADA's enactment, the work to enhance accessibility continues. He thanked Council Member Abby Kamen for her support of the Metropolitan Multi-Service Center renovation project, which serves as a vital resource for the disability community.

The meeting also included an invitation to the Houston Disability Celebration scheduled for July 26, from 10 AM to 12 PM at the Metropolitan Multi-Service Center. The event will feature performances by individuals with disabilities, community resources, and a complimentary lunch.

Following the ADA recognition, Councilor Plummer introduced Pastor White, who provided the invocation. Pastor White, appointed to lead Wesley Methodist Episcopal Church, is noted for his community engagement and commitment to outreach, including reinvesting a portion of church tithes into community events.
