During a recent government meeting, the City of San Francisco celebrated the centennial of Harding Park, highlighting the vital contributions of various groups that keep public golf thriving. The TPC Network and PGA Tour, led by Tom Smith, were commended for their dedication to maintaining the spirit of public golf. The Rec and Parks staff also received accolades for their hard work in managing the course, despite facing fiscal challenges.
In addition to the golf celebration, the meeting provided an update on the city’s summer camp programs, which are currently serving around 3,500 youth. Notably, nearly 1,200 campers are benefiting from $1.2 million in scholarships, ensuring that access to enriching experiences is available to all. This marks a significant increase from just $75,000 in scholarships 16 years ago, showcasing the city’s commitment to youth engagement.
The meeting also featured fun highlights from the summer camp season, including impressive statistics such as 480 hot dogs roasted at Silver Tree Day Camp and 180 hours spent enjoying the city’s pools. The enthusiasm for public programs and community engagement was palpable, reinforcing the city’s dedication to providing quality recreational opportunities for all residents.
