Milwaukee County's Committee on Finance has approved significant funding reallocations aimed at enhancing community services and infrastructure during its recent meeting. A key decision involved the realignment of $173,000 in federal emergency rental assistance funds, which will support families in need amid ongoing housing challenges. Additionally, the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is set to recognize $212,000 from the Just Home project, funded by the McArthur Foundation, further bolstering local housing initiatives.
In economic development, the committee acknowledged two Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) grant allocations totaling $241,000, which will aid local business growth. The meeting also highlighted substantial investments in airport infrastructure, including a $1.4 million allocation for the North Apron rehabilitation project and a $55 million funding package for the rehabilitation of main runways at Milwaukee Airport, primarily supported by federal infrastructure act dollars. An additional $885,000 will be directed towards improvements on Taxiway F, also funded through the infrastructure act.
These funding decisions reflect Milwaukee County's commitment to improving housing stability and enhancing critical infrastructure, ensuring that community needs are met effectively. The committee remains open to questions as these initiatives move forward, signaling a proactive approach to addressing local challenges.
