The Wichita Fire Department's Kids Summer Camp is back and better than ever! After a six-year hiatus, the camp successfully returned in 2024, attracting 100 eager participants within just 36 hours of registration. Designed for children ages 8 to 13, the camp focuses on fire safety education, teamwork, and hands-on experiences that give kids a taste of what it’s like to be a firefighter.
Originally launched in 2014, the camp was paused in 2018 due to declining participation. However, the 2024 revival saw a fresh approach, aligning the program with current interests and ensuring accessibility for families from all economic backgrounds. The camp offered free registration, meals, and even commemorative t-shirts, making it an attractive option for local youth.
Participants engaged in various activities, including fire education and fun physical challenges at Aviate Extreme Air Sports. The camp not only educated but also fostered community spirit, with overwhelming support from local partners.
Looking ahead, the Wichita Fire Department plans to expand the camp further, aiming to provide even more opportunities for children in the community. The success of this year's camp sets a promising foundation for future events, ensuring that every Wichita family can partake in this enriching experience. Don’t miss out on the excitement next summer!
