DeSoto City Council is set to enhance public transportation services with a proposed expansion of its on-demand ride program, Star Now. During a recent special meeting, council members discussed transitioning the existing DART Go Link service to Star Now, making it available to all residents rather than just those in business areas.

Currently, the Go Link service allows users to book rides only an hour in advance, but the new proposal aims to provide same-day booking options for the entire city. This change is expected to improve accessibility, particularly for workforce transportation, while also addressing the needs of seniors and other residents.

Key discussions highlighted the potential impact of adding 13 additional hours of service each weekday, which could lead to a reduction in ride denials. Council members noted that while some denials are inevitable due to operational hours and service limitations, the goal is to cut the denial rate in half, ideally keeping it below 10%.

The proposed changes reflect a commitment to improving transportation options for DeSoto residents, with the council optimistic about the positive outcomes of the expanded service.
