In a pivotal move for Dickinson ISD, the school board has appointed Shirley Miller as the new Director of Transportation. With over 40 years of experience in the field, including more than three decades at Dickinson ISD, Miller's extensive background positions her as a strong leader for the district's transportation department.
Miller began her career as a bus driver and has since advanced through various roles, including driver trainer and operations supervisor. Her qualifications are further bolstered by her certification as a driver trainer and instructor, where she has contributed to the Region 4 school bus safety certification course for over eight years. Notably, she has also excelled in school bus safety competitions, earning multiple state and international titles.
The board's decision was met with unanimous support, highlighting Miller's deep knowledge of transportation operations, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance. Superintendent Doctor Brown emphasized her readiness to lead, stating, "Miss Miller's experience makes her well equipped to lead the district's transportation department."
In a light-hearted moment, the board also encouraged community members to consider driving buses, noting ongoing hiring efforts. As Miller expressed her gratitude for the opportunity, she affirmed her passion for transportation, stating, "When I said in my application that I have transportation in my blood, I mean it." This appointment marks a significant step forward for Dickinson ISD as it continues to prioritize safe and efficient transportation for its students.
