The Fulshear Parks & Recreation Commission made significant strides in the ongoing Art Box Project during their meeting on July 11, 2025. The project, which aims to beautify the community through public art, has faced delays but is now moving forward with six out of seven artist agreements finalized.

The commission reported that they have received the necessary approvals from TxDOT, allowing them to proceed with the project. While they initially planned to wrap seven utility boxes with artwork, three boxes are currently in a construction zone, prompting a decision to only wrap four boxes for now. The remaining boxes will be addressed once construction is complete.

In a notable discussion, concerns were raised about the exclusivity clause in the artist agreements, which prevents artists from using their own artwork elsewhere. One artist has declined to sign the agreement due to this stipulation. While some members expressed a desire to revisit the contract terms to potentially accommodate this artist, the commission decided against changing the agreements for the current project to maintain fairness for the artists who have already signed.

The commission remains committed to the Art Box Project and is optimistic about its completion, which is expected to enhance the aesthetic appeal of Fulshear. Future discussions may revisit the contract terms for any upcoming art contests, ensuring that the project continues to attract diverse artistic contributions.
