Richmond City is moving forward with the Art Dash Boulevard Bridge replacement project, a significant infrastructure initiative funded by an $18.4 million federal grant. During a recent Urban Design Committee meeting, Lamont Benjamin, the capital projects administrator of Public Works, outlined the project's timeline and the challenges faced in securing the necessary agreements with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The city is now under a tight deadline, needing to finalize project details by September 2026 to meet the funding obligation.

Dr. Kim, the city bridge engineer, expressed enthusiasm about the project, noting that it represents a unique opportunity for Richmond to add artistic elements to its infrastructure. This initiative is particularly significant as it marks the first attempt by the city to enhance a bridge's design in such a manner, setting a precedent for future projects.

Scott Wiley, director of landscape architecture at Timmons Group, emphasized the importance of community input in the design process. The team is currently working on achieving 60% design completion and is eager to incorporate suggestions from the committee.
