During a recent Tamarac workshop, community development manager Carolyn Francis Royer presented the 2025 to 2029 consolidated plan and the annual action plan for 2025, outlining critical funding and initiatives aimed at enhancing local services and housing.

The consolidated plan, a five-year strategic framework required for implementing U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) programs, identifies community needs and priorities. For the upcoming year, Tamarac is set to receive $496,342 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding and an estimated $152,214 for the HOME program, primarily focused on housing rehabilitation.

Royer emphasized the importance of public services, which include partnerships with local nonprofits like Meals on Wheels and Women in Distress, targeting vulnerable populations such as seniors and youth. These services are crucial for addressing the needs of disadvantaged groups within the community.

A significant aspect of the planning process is citizen participation. The city has engaged residents through surveys and public hearings, with the first hearing held on May 22. The community's feedback highlighted affordable housing, public services, public improvements, and economic development as top priorities. The plan is available for public review until July 9, with comments being accepted until the city commission meeting.

Following the commission's approval, the plan will be submitted to HUD by the end of July, with the expectation of receiving grant funds shortly thereafter. This structured approach not only aims to secure necessary funding but also ensures that community voices are heard and considered in shaping Tamarac's future development.
