The Guam Legislature celebrated the achievements of young athletes during the Certificate Presentation led by Senator Sabrina Salas Matanane on July 5, 2025. The event honored participants of the second annual Y Impact Invitational Basketball Tournament, which took place from June 18 to June 21 at iLearn Academy Charter School.
Senator Matanane emphasized the tournament's significance, highlighting not only the athletic skills displayed by the players aged 10 to 18 but also the values of sportsmanship, community, and youth empowerment that the event fostered. "This tournament was about impact," she stated, recognizing the dedication and heart shown by the young athletes on the court.
Certificates were presented to various teams and individual players, including champions from the U18, U15, U13, and U10 divisions. Notable recipients included Darwin Isssin, Tristan Hahn, and Colin Baker, among others. Coaches were also acknowledged for their contributions, with special mentions for Mark Johnson and Desmond Mandel.
The event served as a reminder of the positive influence of sports in the community, encouraging youth to strive for excellence both in athletics and in life.
