Parks and Affordable Housing Take Center Stage at Monrovia City Council Meeting

The Monrovia City Council meeting on July 1st highlighted two significant topics: the celebration of Parks Make Life Better Month and a proposal for affordable housing through bungalow courts.

Rebecca Sandoval, the recreation manager, emphasized the importance of parks in fostering community connections. She noted that parks provide essential spaces for residents, especially those without large yards, to engage in activities like walking dogs or hosting events. "Parks bring us together," Sandoval stated, encouraging residents to enjoy the outdoor spaces, particularly as summer heats up.

In a notable shift during the meeting, Council Member Jimenez invited Fred Wasson from the Monrovia Historical Preservation Group (MOPEG) to discuss a proposal for endorsing bungalow courts as a solution to the city's affordable housing crisis. These bungalow courts, which consist of small, community-oriented homes, could provide a charming and practical approach to housing in Monrovia. Jimenez and fellow council members expressed enthusiasm for the idea, linking it to the city’s historical character while addressing modern housing needs.
