Water quality took center stage at the City of Palatka's Regular Commission Meeting, with officials presenting promising analytical reports that highlight significant improvements in the city's water supply.
Shannon, a city representative, detailed the latest findings, reassuring residents about the safety and quality of their drinking water. The report revealed that out of 150 samples, only one tested positive for bacteria, which was traced back to grease used on hydrants rather than contamination. "Our water is free of bacteria and E. Coli," Shannon confirmed, emphasizing that the city is well below the maximum contaminant levels for various substances, including sodium and chlorine.
The report also addressed concerns about trihalomethanes (TTHMs), a common water contaminant. Shannon noted that recent changes have led to a significant reduction in TTHM levels, dropping from an average of 133 to just 11. "We're looking fantastic," he stated, highlighting the city's commitment to maintaining high water quality.
In addition to these improvements, Shannon acknowledged the ongoing efforts to flush out old pipes, which have contributed to better water quality. He expressed gratitude to the commission for their support in addressing these critical issues, stating, "Thank you to this commission for recognizing the need for our department and for the citizens of this great city."
As the meeting concluded, the positive water quality report left residents with a sense of relief and confidence in their city's water management efforts. The city plans to continue monitoring and improving water quality, ensuring that residents have access to safe and clean drinking water.
