In a recent meeting of the Parks and Keep SPI Beautiful Committee, community engagement took center stage as officials revealed the results of a recent survey on park usage and preferences on South Padre Island. With 122 responses collected between June 9 and June 20, the survey highlighted the strong connection residents have with local parks, showcasing their importance as recreational spaces.

The survey results indicated that most respondents are local residents, with a significant number utilizing the parks regularly. Butterfly Park emerged as the most visited location, followed closely by Water Tower Park and John L. Tompkins Park. The survey also revealed that nature and scenery were the top features appreciated by park-goers, with pickleball courts and playground equipment also receiving notable mentions.

Participants expressed a desire for improvements, particularly in the areas of shade, dog parks, and additional lighting. The committee acknowledged these requests, emphasizing the importance of shade in enhancing the park experience and protecting both visitors and park facilities from the sun's harsh effects.
