The Camas School District Board convened on June 23, 2025, to discuss various topics, beginning with the Pledge of Allegiance and a land acknowledgment recognizing the ancestral lands of the Chinook and Cowlitz peoples.

The meeting proceeded with the presentation of Milestone Awards for outstanding achievements in track and field. Coach Butler was absent, but the board recognized three state champions: Corina Cooper, who set a meet record in pole vaulting with a jump of 13 feet 2 inches, along with Chase McGee and Cohen Butler, who also secured state titles. The board congratulated the athletes for their remarkable accomplishments.

Following the awards, Victor Tran, a recent graduate and member of the Student Athlete Leadership Team (SALT), delivered a report on the team's initiatives. Tran explained that SALT aims to inspire student athletes and refresh their guiding principles, previously known as HEART. The new focus emphasizes humility, resilience, and tradition, aiming to foster leadership and community engagement among athletes.

Tran elaborated on the importance of effective communication, community involvement, personal wellness, self-empowerment, and critical thinking as essential skills for student athletes. He highlighted the team's efforts to meet regularly and develop a renewed motto that resonates with current and future students.

The board engaged with Tran, inquiring about the refresh of the SALT initiative and its representation across various sports. Tran confirmed that the team includes representatives from multiple sports, ensuring diverse perspectives and experiences are considered in their discussions.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to continue supporting student athletes and enhancing their experiences within the school community. The board expressed enthusiasm for the ongoing efforts of SALT and the positive impact it aims to have on student engagement and leadership development.
