The Boulder City Beverage Licensing Authority is considering a significant expansion of its designated area for liquor licensing, aiming to include a larger number of city residents in the decision-making process. Currently, only 18 residences fall within the proposed area, but discussions indicate that extending the boundaries eastward could add approximately 120 more Boulder residents.
During the meeting, stakeholders emphasized the importance of including more voices from the community, particularly those who live and work in Boulder. The proposed changes aim to ensure that the licensing authority can better serve the needs of residents who frequent the Boulder Reservoir, which is a popular destination for both city dwellers and those from surrounding areas.
Eva Garretson, a representative from Liquor Pros, highlighted the disparity in the current boundary setup, noting that the western boundary extends significantly further than the eastern one. She pointed out that many homeowners in unincorporated Boulder County are close to the reservoir but are not represented in the current licensing discussions. Garretson argued that these residents, who contribute to city taxes, deserve a voice in the licensing process.
The proposed adjustments to the boundary lines are seen as a step toward a more inclusive approach, allowing for greater community input and ensuring that the needs of all Boulder residents are considered. The authority is expected to deliberate on this proposal further, with the potential for a vote in the near future. This move could reshape the landscape of beverage licensing in Boulder, reflecting a commitment to community engagement and representation.
