Under the warm glow of community spirit, Fort Bend Senior's Meals on Wheels is celebrating a remarkable year of achievements. Recently, the organization not only shattered its fundraising record but also announced its return to Fulshear's Community Center, a hub of activity for local seniors.

At their recent Cinco de Mayo fundraiser held at La Cocina Mexican restaurant, Meals on Wheels raised an impressive $108,000, surpassing last year's total of $102,000. This milestone reflects the unwavering generosity of the community, a testament to the support for seniors in the area.

On June 23, the Irene Stern Community Center at 6920 Fulshear Katy Road will reopen its doors, welcoming seniors back to a vibrant space filled with opportunities. Operating Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 12:30 PM, the center will offer daily hot meals, nutrition education, exercise classes, bingo, and a variety of other activities. Importantly, round-trip transportation will be provided at no cost to residents aged 60 and over, ensuring accessibility for all.

Shonda Thomas, the senior center's manager, emphasizes that the center is more than just a place to eat; it is a vital space for building friendships, maintaining health, and fostering connections among seniors. Serving over 2,300 seniors across Fort Bend and Waller Counties each year, the nonprofit remains steadfast in its mission, especially as federal funding for aging services faces uncertainty.

The reopening of the center on June 23 signifies more than just the resumption of meals; it brings hope, connection, and a sense of community to the seniors of Fulshear. As Fort Bend Seniors looks ahead, they are calling on the community for donations and volunteers to continue their essential work.
