A proposed residential development in Brooksville is stirring up discussions among local officials and community members. During the Planning & Zoning Commission meeting on June 11, 2025, representatives from West Bay, the home builder behind the project, addressed concerns regarding the density of the development in a predominantly rural area.

Matt Suggs, representing West Bay, confirmed that the company is set to purchase the property, which has already been rezoned for mixed-use development. He emphasized their commitment to creating a community that harmonizes with Brooksville's natural beauty, highlighting plans for open spaces and connectivity within the development.

The project has faced scrutiny due to its controversial nature, with some residents expressing concerns about the impact of increased housing density. Suggs acknowledged these concerns but noted that the zoning had been established prior to their involvement. He explained that the original owners had secured the zoning change, allowing for the current development plans to move forward.
